SOoo....

Apparently, SOMEBODY has a problem with the lack of updates so here goes.

Nothing much has been going on. We just go to work and come home, do "home" stuff and go to bed. We've been trying to get together a package to send home for our friends who have had gift giving occasions..birthdays, weddings, etc. Brian finally got a hair cut which i was happy about. My lessons are going great. The moms are awesome, and the hospitality is great. Everytime we have lessons they bring me out fruit for snacks, and even one of the moms invites me to stay for supper! I'm loving getting to eat some authentic home cooked korean food. I'm bringin in about a grand so Brian and I can send home a ton of cash!! We're so pumped up about saving for his grad school.

The other day i was walking home and i passed a grandfather and his 2 grandchildren walking the other way. So as i passed them the little boy (about 7 or 8) stuck out his hand and slapped me really hard in the stomach! I was sooo shocked! I just stopped and looked at him, and the grandfather stopped and looked at me too. Neither of us spoke, I think we were both so confused. Anyway, the grandfather just said "Sorry! Sorry!" but the boy didn't appologise and the grandfather didn't do anything to the boy. Didn't even tell him no! It was soo strange!

This weekend is another holiday weekend so Brian has off on Monday. I think finally we're going to get to go do some touristy stuff and see some museums. Maybe make our own pottery or something. So i should have some cool pictures for you then.

Congratulations to William and Jill Donnell on the recent birth of their Daughter, "Ella Catherine."

Love to all,

same old

Hey ya'll,
not much goin on here, We've been super busy with classes all week. I started doing some more part time teaching which i'm really enjoying. I'm really liking the women i teach and am starting some violin lessons with some of their children. We've been cooking more at home and i've learned to cook one of our favorite korean things..ttok (sounds kindof like saying "duck" really quickly). Puppy is passed out on the floor after a rousing game of fetch. He gets hickups everytime he gets overly excited, and he's recovering from those as well. I miss home, as always, but i love being in Korea.

Brian has begun his application process to grad schools. We're (and by we i mean he--but i'll be going with him too so we'll say we!) so, we're applying to the University of Edinburgh (Scotland), Oxford, and maybe some schools up in the twin cities, if circumstances happen that we end up in the upper US. I'm up for any of them. We looked at moving back to Nashville so that i could play music while he was at school, but Vandy just discontinued their grad program, so i guess that's a door closed huh?! It's all good though, i know that the Lord has it under control. Life's much easier when you know that no matter what, even if you make the "wrong" decision, God will always be with you and guide you through all your choices, good or bad! So please be praying for us for direction, I have no doubt that Brian will be accepted to all of those schools. His first choice is Edinburgh, so probably by this time next year we'll be (as a good friend so eloquently put it) another thousand miles away! Edinburgh would be my first choice out of all of them because of my LOVE for the celtic world, and especially celtic music!
Anyway,
Love to all, miss you all,
write soon,
Amanda

Chun Cheon

This weekend we went with our friends Amy and Gray to Chun Cheon, and stayed in some cabins. It was Korean thanksgiving basically, Chusok, where all the people go to their hometowns and offer sacrifices to their ancestors. Basically we just ate junk food and watched movies. We slept alot and played a bunch of cards. They're awesome card players and it's great to find someone as excited about spending 5 hours just playing cards!
So here are some pictures! I hope you like em!
This is Ttakalbi. It's raw chicken, cabbage, ttak and spices all cooked in front of you. We sat on the floor while the waitresses cooked it for us. MMMMM it's one of our favorites here!

This one is of Brian and me at a Nore Bang which is Karaoke room in korean. We had a blast. Brian Loves Karaoke. This was my first time to do it!

AWWW...Amanda and Brian!

The scenery was amazing coming on the drive. This is just some random mountains!

ugh..

I absolutely hate the hours from about 2:30 to 5:30. This is the most boring part of my day. Usually all the stuff i gotta do is done...dishes washed, emails answered, laundry done, floors swept, emails answered, bed made, emails answered, did i mention writing email??? Oh..OK. Anyway, so by this time of the day i have NOTHING to do, but wait for Brian to call, or come home. It's soooo boring. I'm glad for the job though, b/c Tues. and Thurs. aren't this boring, and i'm starting a private violin student next Wed. So my days are slowly filling up. But I guess just right now i'm bored. It's too late at home to call anyone, so it's either web surfing or movie watching and the fact that we maybe own 15 movies...we've seen so many times...makes movie watching a little less entertaining.
I've been listening to alot of Pod casts which i love and also, some music. Lately i've been lovin me some Lyle Lovett and some Gavin DeGraw. If you haven't heard Gavins stuff...the whole Chariot album is freakin awesome, I don't know if he has any other ones out...ahh...back to web surfing..

LOADED!

Well, not really, once it's all put into it's appropriate envelopes for the upcoming month! But today was payday again...and what a wonderful day it is! They pay you in cash here no checks. Imagine getting paid $2,000 in only $10 bills because that's their highest bill here (however you add 3 zeros to the end..so it's $10,000 won). So you feel like a freakin rock star carrying around that kind of cezzie (cash).
We're taking this guy we met out to "our" Korean restaurant tonght. He's been here for about 2 weeks and hasn't been able to order food yet so he has eaten Pizza Hut like 7 out of 14 days! We're going to try and acclimate him a little more to the food. I'm getting much more used to the spicyness of the food here. I can down some kimchi, and can eat some Dok. I'm still not up to Brian's level, but he's alot braver than i am...i think his lips don't ignite as quickly as mine do either. So anyway, baby steps right!
Well,
bye for now friends,
Amanda

I really don't know...

So today, i was working on the computer and turned around to see this

It cracked me up so i had to share!

Yesterday, I spent all day with Brian at his CCC classes (Christ Centered Curriculum). The curriculum is not a good curriculum. The heart behind it is good i think, but it just makes no sense. You've heard me say it so i'm not going to go into it!

I've been listening to Dave Ramsey everyday over podcast and it's really motivating me to save and be smart with our money. I'm excited about it. I really want to get his new book "The Total Money Makeover" when we get back!

Today we're supposed to go to a museum and go see a changing of the guards and stuff. It's already 9:43 am, and i can't get Brian to get out of bed. So i'm thinking he thinks we're going to leave around like 2:00pm (which isn't going to happen b/c it's going to be mad hot and it takes a while to get there...). So, it's the house AGAIN but i think we'll go hang out with our friends Amy and Gray tonight. Next weekend we're going to an island with Gray and Amy and spending 2 nights in a cabin. We're all splitting the cost. We're excited about that and to get to see some countryside rather than big apt buildings.

Much love to everyone!!!
Amanda

miss my home

Hello to all,
yesterday i had had it! I was so sick and tired of rice and veggies. I just want to eat some food i'm familiar with. Not like fast food. Like...pot roast. or something. Also, My good friends "Ben and Janie." got married this weekend. They met at Brian and my wedding so needless to say i was heart broken about not being there, So if anyone has pictures or details (this is for the girls only b/c i never get good details from boys) PLEASE email me!!! :) i don't know how long i can wait. They don't get back for a week...that just seems tooo long!

BUT!!! DA DA DA!! Our fridgerator is fianally fixed. We've been fridge less for about a month now. So i'm so pumped about going grocery shopping today and having cold water!!!! This is awesome, we've been drinking room temperature water for a month and i HATE it! Eggs and milk! :)

Brian started the school we were brought over here, today. He just called and sounds like he's having a blast! I have my second class tomorrow, i've planned some things to do, i hope it goes better than last weeks. The first one was really bad but the second was really good...less students in the 2nd! Well we'll see.
Well, i'm going to go try to find some food!
love to all,
Amanda
